Features
The spacious firebox was designed to accommodate 500 mm (19.69") wood lengthwise. By using larger wood, you can avoid re-stoking the stove in the middle of baking and struggling to regulate the changing temperature.
The standard firebox contains a grate and generous ash pan for convenient removal of ashes. This design is best for multi-fuel burning. However, for improved efficiency if you will be burning logs only, you can order a kit which replaces the grate and ash pan with a solid, deeper firebox that allows a bed of ashes to build up.
Two polished stainless steel hotplate covers complement the graphite finished cooking surfaces. Two dog-bone hotplates offer a large hob area with designated heat zones for easy "pan slide" operation. Easily move your cook pan to the required heat zone - boil, slow boil or simmer.
A sliding lever located just above the glass door controls the air wash which keeps the door glass clean. The primary and secondary controls regulate the fire for heating and cooking while keeping the glass window clean.
The single large oven has vented extraction so cooking odors disappear up the flue. The oven works by offering gentle and indirect heat that won't dry out your food. Pizzas, for example, will be piping hot and evenly cooked from edge to center while toppings remain moist and the bottom is baked to perfection. Cooking temperature can be reached in approximately 60 minutes from cold start. Oven temperatures are easy to regulate using a simple push/pull action control lever.
The small bottom door at left hides the generous ash pan, making ash removal clean and easy. The door on the bottom right hides the access panel which is used when cleaning the flue way around the oven.
The optional boiler is capable of running a single radiator and providing domestic hot water (up to 30 psi).

5 of 5 my esse January 10, 2015
Reviewer: mac mcgreal from Darlington pa
I installed my stove in November of 2013. We experimented with it last winter using bought cord wood to heat and cook a little. In the spring of 2014 I cut and split 6 cords of ash and we got ready for winter. Our house is about 1600 sq ft.We built it new in 2005 its all electric with an average bill of 185.00 per month. My lowest bill this winter was 31.07 and my highest has been 86.78. The only time we've run the furnace was when we went out of town or shut the esse down to do a clean out. We haven't used the electric stove top or oven since probably October. My wife cooks everything on the esse. She's amazing pays no attention to the thermometer at all. I watch her go from top rack to bottom rack turning the pan or roaster every time. We've cooked everything from bread to lasagna. The money we spent for the Esse is best money we've ever spent. Its come back to us ten times its value just in enjoyment. Its by far the best stove and you can't go wrong dealing with Woody

5 of 5 Heartily Recommended! February 5, 2014
Reviewer: Barry Fink from Eureka Springs, AR
We finally finished with the permanent destination for our Esse Ironheart just in time for Christmas, so I am sending these photos. We are very happy with the Esse and would heartily recommend it to any one. My wife cooks on it frequently and has baked pies, bread, cakes and other foods in the oven, as well as using it to warm up leftovers. It keeps the house nice and warm and is easy to start a fire in. The baffle has been staying in place and the fire brick you sent fits perfectly now.

I can't say thank you enough for your help with the stove and your guidance in constructing the alcove for it, Woody.
I will be recommending Obadiah's Woodstoves to others.

5 of 5 Excellent Help for Non-customer!!! December 5, 2013
Reviewer: Catriona & Nick Martyn from Ontario, Canada
Hi Woody

I'm the lady who just phoned you from Ontario, Canada, in the middle of having our Esse Ironheart installed, and you spoke to one of the installers, Dylan, as well.

We bought the Ironheart from a very good local fireplace shop, Embers in Perth, couple of years ago, and have been waiting for our kitchen renovations to be ready for its installation.

Although the North American dealer is in British Columbia, he's a bit hard to get a hold of, and doesn't often return calls too promptly, unfortunately.

We had read a lot online about the Esse, and everything I read leads back to you as the acknowledged North American expert on all things Esse Ironheart!

I just wanted to say how much we really appreciate your generosity in supporting Esse would-be owners, with your excellent videos on Youtube, and your helpful advice I'm reading online at Hearth.com and so on, and Dylan wanted to say thanks, too, for your guidance.

Many, many thanks, from a snowy corner of Ontario,

Catriona & Nick Martyn

5 of 5 3 Year's with the Ironheart November 30, 2013
Reviewer: Glenn Keto from Laurier,WA, ketoriverfarm.com
We installed an Ironheart in 2010.  We love it. It heats 1700 square feet.  The look is beautiful ... everyone agrees.  We do much of our cooking on it.
In the beginning I made some mistakes. Had it come with decent instructions it would have been much easier.  My biggest mistake was in not using the woodbox the first year.  Without the woodbox, the fire was difficult to damp down and as a result I had a warped and flaking ceiling after the first year.  The manufacturer was not sympathetic even when I pointed out that their manual completely skipped over using the woodbox. Obadiah's was! With the woodbox I find I can easily control the size of fire.  However, I find the edges of the woodbox have flared out to the extent that it is damaging the fire brick.  I will have to replace it later this winter.  I highly recommend this as a high-end stove and also recommend that you skip the purchase of the OEM woodbox and purchase Obadiah's stronger one instead.
